We are seeking a Temporary Behavioral Specialist to provide comprehensive assessment of individual behavior. They will implement the treatment plan and document service. We are specifically looking for someone who is a Level 1 BIS.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports and encourages individuals to increase his/her ability to problem solve, be in control of life situations, and to be as independent as possible.
  • Meets with treatment team on a regular basis, either in the individual’s residence, the community or an office setting.
  • Provide on-going support for integration efforts.
  • Documents person’s progress and assesses interventions and collaborative services.
  • Writes behavior plans per OPWDD regulations.
  • Assists in building a support network between the individual, family members, and the community.
  • Provides counseling supports in either individual or group settings.
  • Participates in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Program Services.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Behavior Analysis with a BCBA, OR
    • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, School Psychology, or Apply Psychology and document training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development, OR
    • NYS License in mental health counseling
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior support plans and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with a person receiving support.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of the job, employee travels by automobile, utilizing own vehicle, and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • Transports participants in own vehicle.
  • Flexible schedule as determined by needs of the consumer and the supervisor.
  • Work will take place in community and residential settings.
