Job Description

We are currently seeking a Behavioral Specialist to help effectively support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have experience designing individualized behavior intervention and support plans, using functional behavior assessment tools, and designing and using appropriate methods of data collection.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts behavioral assessments upon request of team member or another appropriate referral source
  • Actively participates in treatment team meetings, ensuring a person-centered approach to care.
  •  Conducts and documents staff training on how to implement the behavioral management plans including techniques, required documentation, behavior guidelines, etc.
  • Documents individual’s progress and assesses interventions and collaborative services
  • Reviews and revises behavior support plans as indicated by the individual's progress and needs, along with the treatment team's recommendations.
  • Supports and encourages consumer to increase his/her ability to problem solve, be in control of life situations, and to be as independent as possible.
  • Provide on-going support for integration efforts.
  • Provide crisis management services as necessary.
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Program Services.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Master’s Degree with 1 year experience working with IDD population preferred, or
    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 2 years’ experience working with IDD population
  • Must have a current BCBA or BCaBA certification
    • Candidates who are eligible for certification with plans to achieve will also be considered
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in writing and implementing behavioral support plans required.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Crisis management skills and consistent demonstration of ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner to meet current needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will take place in community and residential settings.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee travels by automobile, utilizing own vehicle, and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule as determined by needs of the consumer and supervisor.
