The Pre-Employment Transition Specialist will supervise and train individuals with developmental disabilities to acquire the skills needed to be gainfully employed, including, but not limited to specific job tasks, work routine, and personal life activities that are critical to successful employment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaches the individual independent job skills and requirements, utilizing job task analysis and job specific supports, including assistive technology and personal assistance.
  • Reinforces essential skills, or teaches new skills appropriate for developing a resume, conducting a successful job interview, and completing a job application.
  • Communicates with potential employers and assists with the recruitment of potential employers by attending job fairs, networking with various community partners, and local career links.
  • Provides the necessary assistance for the individual to be placed in and maintain competitive employment.
  • Work side by side with the individual at the job site, by analyzing the job requirements and breaking it down into manageable components that can be taught to the consumer.
  • Conducts regular updates to the students/individuals support teams and provides feedback to the students/individuals of progress made and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Development Director.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 year experience in supportive employment or related field preferred, OR
    • High School Diploma/GED with 3 years’ experience in supportive employment or related field, in lieu of degree
  • Must have experience developing curriculums and liaising with school districts and vocational rehabilitation.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a guidance counselor or special educator preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local regulatory agency operations.
  • Understanding and commitment to community based support for persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and to assist an individual physically.
  • Hours and weekly schedule dictated based on needs of clients and referrals to the program.
  • Must be available to travel.
  • While performing the duties of the job, employee travels by automobile, and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • Work will take place in community and office settings.
